Run It Disc Golf is out
Run It Disc Golf is live on both stores.
What does it actually do?
The short version is that it tries to answer "what should I expect to shoot here, and where am I going to lose strokes" before you ever tee off.
Connect your PDGA number and it pulls in your history. From there you can create Gameplans, view Tournament and Course Insights and Analyze your past rounds.
Game plans. Pick an upcoming tournament and the app builds a hole by hole plan for that course, using our prediction model of how players at your rating actually score on those specific holes. Not general advice about laying up, an actual predicted score for hole 7 with a range around it.
Tournament and course insights. What the field has historically done at this event, how the course tends to play, and which holes are the ones that end up deciding it.
Why I built it
I am a software engineer and I play PDGA events, and the thing that always got me was showing up to a course I had never played with no real sense of what a good round there even looked like. What I wanted to know was what somebody with my rating usually takes on hole 7, and whether it is a hole worth running at or one where I should take the 3 and walk to the next tee.
What it is not
The model is built out of real recorded rounds, so on a course with a lot of history it does a pretty good job. On a course that has barely been played in a sanctioned event it has much less to work with and the app will tell you when that is the case instead of making something up.
It also does not know about wind or that you have been putting badly for three weeks. It is a starting point for how you plan a round, not a script.
What is next
I have a long list of upcoming features and some of it is already half built. This is a passion project and I work on it whenever I can.
If you use it and something is broken or annoying please tell me. I read all of it and a decent chunk of what is in the app now came from somebody saying that a thing was confusing.
